The Mission

The Baptist Deacons Conference of Baltimore and Vicinity and Its Auxiliaries are committed to preparing a leadership of compassionate, competent, and committed believers. We believe that the message of the Church has not changed, but the methodology that we utilize to get the message out must change. The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ must not be stymied nor stagnated by outdated traditions and practices. Fresh visionary leadership is a necessity for continuous progress in the furtherance of the Kingdom.

The word deacon comes from the Greek word “diakanos” meaning servant. We are to serve and not be served, serve and not dictate, serve and not denigrate, serve and not manipulate. I Timothy 3:13 declares, “For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Our desire is to partner with Pastors for progress. In addition to serving the Table of the Lord, the Pastor, and the Poor, we will raise the visibility and viability of the Deacons Ministry through education, information, and fellowship.

We serve God by serving one another. God has no hands but our hands, no feet but our feet, and no voice but our voice.

Where He leads me I will follow, Where He leads me I will follow

Where He leads me I will follow, I’ll go with Him all the Way!

Text Box: Reflections of the President

In 1938, a group of visionary leaders came together to create an organization dedicated to the
recognition, education, and viability of the office of the Deacon in the Churches of Baltimore City and vicinity. For seventy over five years, the Baptist Deacons Conference of Baltimore and Vicinity and its Auxiliaries has continued to engage, inspire, ignite, and empower our members to positively
impact the lives of those whom God sends our way.

We have been called of God, our pastors and churches to invest our time, talent, gifts, abilities, minds, hearts, and treasure for the furtherance of the Kingdom. Pastors, deacons, deaconess,
trustees, and ministry leaders must partner together for progress. Shared responsibility is the
order of the day.

“Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are laborers together with God.” I Corinthians 3:8-9

We seek to gain and maintain a level of flexibility to meet the challenges of the work and witness God has called us to. The message has not changed, but the methods must change. The Apostle Paul makes this clear in I Corinthians 9:22, “To the weak became I as weak; I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”

A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify,
A never dying soul to save, And fit it for the sky.

To serve this present age, My calling to fulfill,
Oh may it all my powers engage, to do the Master’s will.
